Nocheluna Sotol : Pernod Ricard introduces Mexican craft spirit in Europe
Pernod Ricard has introduced Nocheluna Sotol, a handcrafted spirit produced from the sotol (Dasylirion) plant indigenous to Chihuahua, Mexico, in select European countries.
The sotol plant, according to Pernod Ricard, flourishes in harsh desert conditions, including scorching dry days and cool nights, which contribute to the creation of its distinctive sotol. These environmental factors enhance the plant’s ability to produce a liquid with a unique and complex flavor profile.
The outcome is a smooth and refined combination of wild herbs, dried stone fruit, caramel, and honey, accompanied by deep mineral notes and hints of oak firewood. This exceptional blend is made possible by the extraordinary desert terroir and the expertise of the team involved in its crafting.
In October of last year, Pernod Ricard partnered with Casa Lumbre, the creators of Ojo de Tigre Mezcal and Abasolo Ancestral Corn Whisky, as well as renowned musician, actor, and designer Lenny Kravitz, to develop Nocheluna Sotol. This new offering adds to the growing category of sotol spirits.
Nocheluna marks the third collaboration between Pernod Ricard and Mexican spirits company Casa Lumbre.
Moises Guindi — Casa Lumbre founder and CEO said: “Casa Lumbre has a mission to elevate the amazing flavors we have in Mexico and promote its unparalleled biological and cultural patrimony. That’s why we gathered an amazing group of people to make this dream of Nocheluna come true”.
Pernod Ricard stated that each batch of Nocheluna Sotol originates from a meticulous harvest of wild sotol plants grown on our family-owned property, Rancho La Vinata. The pronounced and versatile profile of Nocheluna Sotol is achieved by the intricate layers of flavor absorbed from the Dasylirion plant and the surrounding desert terroir.
The taste showcases a fresh mineral character with a delicate sweetness, complemented by notes of citrus and cacao.
Nocheluna Sotol is now available in France, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Italy, with an average suggested retail price of €74.9.
Alexandre Ricard — Pernod Ricard Chairman and CEO said: “Sotol is a genuine, authentic product coming from a marvelous terroir. It has existed for more than 800 years but now it’s time for Pernod Ricard to introduce it to the world, thanks to our unique route to market and our expertise in amplifying brands.”
