NHPC to begin commercial operations at Unit 3 of Bairasiul Power Station

NHPC Limited said that it is set to begin commercial operations of Unit 3 of the Bairasiul Power Station, a 180MW hydroelectric power plant in Himachal Pradesh, scheduled for 00.00 hours on 31 August 2021.

The Indian government-owned hydropower company has completed testing and commissioning of the 60MW unit after wrapping up the renovation and modernization works. Earlier this month the third unit of the Bairasiul Power Station was synchronized with the power grid.

The hydropower station located in Dhar in Chamba district was renovated and modernized for life extension after completing 35 years of commercial operation.

The run-of-the-river Bairasiul Power Station utilizes the combined inflow of three tributaries of the Ravi river — Baira, Bhaled, and Siul.
