Neptune Energy has been granted a drilling permit from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) for drilling well 6406/12-G-1 H in production licence 586 (PL 586) in the Norwegian Sea.
The wildcat well will be drilled by using the West Phoenix drilling facility once it wraps up the drilling of observation well 6406/12-H-4 for Neptune Energy in the same licence. It will be spudded nearly 36 kilometers southwest of the Njord oil field, operated by Equinor.
Neptune Energy is the operator of PL 586 with an ownership stake of 30%. The company is partnered by Vår Energi (45%), Suncor Energy (17.5%) and DNO Norge (7.5%) in the license.
The area in PL 586 consists of part of block 6406.
According to NPD, PL 586 was awarded in February 2011 during APA 2010 and 6406/12-G-1 H is the seventh wildcat well to be drilled in the licence.
NPD said that the drilling permit is conditional on the operator getting all other permits and consents needed by other authorities before commencing drilling activity.
