Maruti Suzuki India boosts production capacity with new assembly line at Manesar
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the leading passenger vehicle manufacturer in India, has significantly enhanced its production capabilities with the inauguration of a new vehicle assembly line at its Manesar facility. This development is a testament to the company’s commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India‘ initiative, aiming to nearly double its production capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years.
The new assembly line, integrated into the existing Plant-A at the Manesar location, adds a manufacturing capacity of 100,000 units per annum. With this addition, the total production capacity at the Manesar site has risen to 900,000 vehicles annually. Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility, which already boasts the production of several best-selling vehicles such as Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Wagon R, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz, and Celerio, has been instrumental in the company reaching the 3 Crore production milestone, contributing over 95 lakh units.
Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the strategic importance of the new assembly line, noting, “This capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a step towards [our goal]. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh units per annum.” Furthermore, Mr. Takeuchi emphasized the adoption of new technologies in the assembly line designed to improve human ergonomics, productivity, and traceability, marking a significant advancement in manufacturing efficiency and worker safety.
Since its inception in February 2007 with Plant A, the Manesar facility has expanded to meet increasing customer demand, with the addition of Plant B in 2011 and Plant C in 2013. This phased expansion reflects Maruti Suzuki’s responsive strategy to market needs and its vision for sustained growth.
Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to innovation and quality has solidified its position as a leader in the Indian automotive industry. The company’s latest investment in expanding its production capacity not only aligns with national manufacturing goals but also sets a new benchmark for the industry in embracing advanced manufacturing technologies.
