MAN Energy Solutions has awarded a significant feasibility study to Aker Carbon Capture, aiming to develop a joint power-to-fuel solution. This study marks an extension of Aker Carbon Capture’s partnership with MAN Energy Solutions, delving into the integration of the Just Catch 100 unit into a comprehensive power-to-fuel solution.
Integrating Just Catch 100 for Efficient Power-to-Fuel Solutions
Jon Christopher Knudsen, Chief Commercial Officer at Aker Carbon Capture, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with MAN Energy Solutions in the power-to-fuel domain. This partnership, building on the ongoing project with Heidelberg Materials’ Brevik CCS, underscores the growing momentum in the CCUS market. The Just Catch 100 unit, capable of capturing around 12.5 tonnes of CO2 per hour, is pivotal for integrating with power-to-fuel processes and producing sustainable e-methane.
Aker Carbon Capture’s Milestones and Market Expansion
Aker Carbon Capture has been fortifying its position in the CCUS market through strategic pre-FEEDs and studies. The feasibility study with MAN Energy Solutions further validates the accelerating pace of the CCUS market. Notably, Aker Carbon Capture is delivering a Just Catch 100 unit at Twence’s waste-to-energy facility in the Netherlands and has initiated the delivery of five units to Ørsted’s bioenergy facilities in Denmark.
E-Methane Production for Sustainable Energy Solutions
The collaboration focuses on producing e-methane, combining CO2 captured by the Just Catch 100 unit with green hydrogen from renewable electricity. MAN Energy Solutions, with its expertise in electrolyzers and methanation processes, aims for a highly energy-efficient, integrated solution. This initiative explores e-methane as a sustainable alternative for heating, chemical processes, and in industrial furnaces.
Ulrich Vögtle on the Importance of CO2 in E-Fuels Production
Ulrich Vögtle, Head of Business Development and New Solutions at MAN Energy Solutions, highlighted the critical role of CO2 in e-fuels production. Adopting Aker Carbon Capture’s Just Catch 100 unit is expected to decrease costs and expedite project timelines, contributing to a carbon-neutral future.
