Mahindra & Mahindra reports strong growth in SUV and tractor sales for January 2025
Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M), a leading player in India‘s automotive and farm equipment industries, has reported significant year-on-year growth in vehicle sales for January 2025. The company saw an 18% increase in SUV sales, while total vehicle volumes, including exports, rose 16%. Additionally, Mahindra’s farm equipment sector recorded a 15% rise in domestic tractor sales, reflecting strong rural demand and favourable market conditions.
How Did Mahindra’s Auto Sales Perform in January 2025?
Mahindra’s SUV market growth remains one of its strongest segments. The company sold 50,659 SUVs in India during January 2025, marking an 18% increase from 43,068 units in January 2024. Total auto sales, including exports, reached 85,432 units, demonstrating robust demand for Mahindra vehicles across multiple segments.
Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, attributed the strong performance to sustained consumer demand and increasing interest in the company’s electric SUV models. “We started 2025 on a high note, with Mahindra auto sales continuing their strong momentum. Our SUV market growth remains a key highlight, with significant customer interest in our upcoming electric models. We launched test drives for the BE6 and XEV 9E on January 14, and bookings will officially open on February 14,” Nakra said.
The company’s commercial vehicle division also contributed significantly to the overall sales performance, with 23,917 units sold in India.
How Is Mahindra Expanding Its Presence in Global Markets?
Mahindra’s exports saw an impressive 95% growth, nearly doubling compared to the same period last year. The company shipped 3,404 vehicles internationally, a sharp rise from 1,746 units in January 2024. This surge highlights Mahindra’s expanding global footprint and the growing demand for its vehicles in international markets.
The strong growth in exports aligns with Mahindra’s broader strategy to strengthen its global presence in the automotive industry, particularly in regions where demand for SUVs and electric vehicles is increasing.
What’s Driving Mahindra’s Tractor Sales Increase in 2025?
Mahindra’s farm equipment sector reported a 15% rise in domestic tractor sales, with 26,305 units sold in India in January 2025, up from 22,972 units in January 2024. The total tractor sales, including exports, reached 27,557 units, with international shipments growing 28% to 1,252 units.
Hemant Sikka, President of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector, attributed the increase in tractor sales to favourable monsoon conditions and strong rural demand. “Above-normal rainfall and improved soil moisture levels have led to increased Rabi sowing. Additionally, continued government support for agriculture, farm subsidies, and expectations of higher budget allocations for the rural sector are expected to further boost tractor sales,” Sikka explained.
Mahindra’s leadership in the tractor market is further reinforced by its strong domestic and export performance, positioning the company as a key player in global agricultural machinery.
What Does This Growth Mean for Mahindra’s Market Position in 2025?
The strong performance in both auto and farm equipment sectors underscores Mahindra’s dominance in the Indian automotive market and its growing relevance in the global space. With an SUV market growth driven by consumer demand and new model launches, combined with rising tractor sales, the company is well-positioned for continued success in 2025.
Mahindra’s expansion into electric SUVs and increasing focus on export markets also signal its long-term vision of sustainability and innovation. As Mahindra auto sales continue to rise, the company’s strategy remains focused on technological advancements, customer engagement, and global market expansion.
With upcoming electric SUV launches, a strong commercial vehicle lineup, and a resilient farm equipment sector, Mahindra is expected to maintain its upward trajectory in 2025.
