Mahindra Defence Systems bags $150m contract for light specialist vehicles from Indian MoD

The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given an INR 10.56 billion ($150 million) contract to Mahindra Defence Systems (MDSL) for the supply of 1,300 light specialist vehicles to the Indian Army.

According to Mahindra Defence Systems, the 300 light specialist vehicles are planned to be inducted in four years.

The armoured solutions provider said that the light specialist vehicle is a modern fighting vehicle. It will be authorized to multiple fighting units for carrying medium machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and also anti-tank guided missiles.

Mahindra Defence Systems stated: “These combat vehicles are extremely agile with all round protection against small arms fire and will assist small independent detachments which are required to operate this weapon platform in the operational area.

“This is a flagship project showcasing the indigenous manufacturing capabilities of the defence industry and will add another milestone to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’ and ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government.”
