Maersk Drilling bags contract extension for Maersk Discoverer rig from CGX

Maersk Drilling said that it has bagged a one-well contract extension in Guyanese waters for its Maersk Discoverer drilling rig from Canadian oil and gas firm CGX Resources.

The Maersk Discoverer was awarded a contract for the drilling of an exploration well in the Corentyne Block offshore Guyana by CGX Resources in April 2021. At that time, the contract had an option to drill an exploration well in the Demerara Block, which has now been exercised by the Canadian energy company.

CGX Resources is the operator of the Demerara Block, where it is partnered by Frontera Energy Guyana Corp.

Drilling of the second exploration well in the Demerara Block is anticipated to begin in the first half of next year in direct continuation of Maersk Discoverer’s contract with Shell Trinidad.
