Leonardo to supply AeroBOSS warning system to DFW Airport

AeroBOSS warning system contract : Leonardo said that its US subsidiary Selex ES has won a contract from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW Airport) to deliver a warning system to reduce the risk of incursions on runways.

The Italian aerospace company said that Selex ES will provide the airport with its AeroBOSS Runway Incursion Warning System (RIWS).

The AeroBOSS warning system is part of Leonardo’s portfolio of airport surface management systems, surveillance, enroute navigation, and precision approach and landing systems.

It can alert vehicle drivers of any potential hazards prior to their entry on the runway area. This helps in avoiding runway incursions, improve coordination between ground vehicles and help in overall safety, said the Italian aerospace company.

Under the AeroBOSS warning system contract, Selex ES will be responsible for supplying hardware and software apart from the integration of RIWS technology for 500 vehicles.

Leonardo stated: “There are nearly 3,100 airports worldwide with commercial air carrier service, but only a small percentage have runway incursion prevention systems. AeroBOSS has been developed for Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and airports to improve safety in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

“The RIWS program is expected to become a model for other airports. Selex ES Inc. is currently delivering the same world-class level of safety to more than 25 airports worldwide.”
