Larsen & Toubro secures major defence contract from Indian government

In a significant move for India’s defence sector, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has awarded Larsen & Toubro (L&T) a prestigious contract valued between Rs 5,000 crores and Rs 10,000 crores. This contract mandates L&T to supply High Power Radars (HPR) to the Indian Air Force (IAF), a key component in strengthening the country’s aerial surveillance capabilities. The HPR, characterized by its static sensor for long-range surveillance and higher uptime, is equipped with NextGen features and remote operations functionality. These radars are set to enhance the IAF’s capabilities in monitoring special zones, tracking adversaries with unmatched accuracy across multiple locations on a turnkey basis.

Further solidifying its role in enhancing India’s defence infrastructure, L&T also confirmed signing another contract for supplying indigenously developed Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS) to the IAF. Planned to be deployed across various strategic locations in India, the CIWS aims to protect vital assets from low flying, low signature aerial threats, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This system integrates Air Defence Guns, Tracking Radars, a Search Radar, and a Command & Control Shelter, along with simulators and communication equipment, offering a comprehensive defence mechanism against aerial threats.
