Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bags two contracts from Chennai Metro Rail
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said that its construction unit has bagged two large contracts from the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL), with the value ranging from INR 25-50 billion.
The first order for L&T’s heavy civil infrastructure business is for the construction of around 12km twin bored tunnels from Kellys station to Taramani Road Junction station.
Under the contract, L&T will also construct diaphragm walls of station box and entry/exit structures of Chetpet Metro, Thiruvanmiyur Metro Stations, Royapettah Govt. Hospital, and part diaphragm wall of Greenways Road Metro Station, including launching and retrieval shafts in the metro stations.
The underground Metro Rail tunnel package awarded to L&T is a part of Corridor 3 of the Phase-II Metro Rail Project of Chennai Metro Rail Corporation.
L&T has to construct the project in nearly 52 months by using eight tunnel boring machines that will simultaneously work in multiple stretches.
The other contract from Chennai Metro Rail Corporation is for the construction of nearly 8km of elevated Viaduct with nine elevated metro stations beginning from Power House to Porur Junction including other related works.
According to L&T, the elevated corridor includes around 4km of double deck construction in which the two decks are used for metro rail, making it the first of its kind in India. The elevated metro rail package is to be constructed in 36 months, and is a part of Corridor 4 of CMRL Phase-II Metro Rail Project.
L&T stated: “These projects are the first packages of Phase -– II which have been awarded by Chennai Metro Rail. Both the projects were bagged under stiff competition from domestic and international metro construction players.
“L&T is proud to be associated with Chennai Metro Rail for Phase -– II and will deploy the state-of-the-art construction methods and digital technologies to build these prestigious projects.”
