Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI) said that it is joining forces with IIT Madras to undertake collaborative research in the field of 5G.

Through the collaboration, the Larsen & Toubro subsidiary and IIT Madras will look to innovate in the growing 5G space and enable validation of 5G frameworks, deployments of low frequency RF, as well as use case testing with 5G test bed.

Larsen & Toubro Infotech and IIT Madras will work towards promoting research for developing low-cost, low frequency 5G network setup for enhanced connectivity in rural India.

The main objective of the effort is to build a 5G base station and single-box solution for facilitating rural connectivity.

Professor Mahesh Panchagnula — Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations) at IIT Madras said: “IITM’s 5G testbed project is an effort to encourage Indian startups and the industry to take an early lead in 5G. The goal of the project is to build a testbed that closely resembles a realworld 5G deployment.”

Larsen & Toubro Infotech said that it will closely work with IIT Madras for designing the low-cost base stations and network for rural connectivity. It will also offer expertise for research capabilities and provide relevant infrastructure support for the initiative.
