Larsen & Toubro’s Renewable Energy arm has announced securing orders worth between Rs 10,000 to 15,000 crores for constructing two gigawatt-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in the Middle East. These projects, with a combined capacity of 3.5 GW, mark a significant expansion of L&T’s portfolio in renewable energy, aligning with global shifts towards sustainable infrastructure development.
The orders encompass not only the construction of the solar plants but also include the development of essential grid interconnections, which involve pooling substations and overhead transmission lines. Detailed engineering and the initial phases of construction are set to begin shortly, highlighting the swift progression from planning to execution.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of another major achievement last month, where L&T secured an order for a solar-cum-storage plant within India. With these new projects in the Middle East, L&T’s renewable energy portfolio is expected to surge to a cumulative capacity of 22 GWp (Gigawatt Peak), which includes both commissioned and in-progress solar and wind generation projects.
Mr. T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at L&T, commented on the recent wins, stating, “The successive order wins stand testimony to our proven engineering and project management capabilities to meet the requirements in terms of plant performance, workforce mobilization, safety, quality, and timeline. We cherish this level of customer trust.”
Further adding to the significance of these orders, Mr. S N Subrahmanyan, Chairman & Managing Director of L&T, remarked, “The Middle East is far ahead in creating sustainable energy infrastructure and in providing a smart lifestyle. These orders are welcome additions to our green portfolio, as we build the company of the future with next-generation technologies.”
The strategic move to expand into the Middle East’s renewable energy market positions L&T as a key player in the global transition towards sustainable energy solutions. The region’s commitment to developing a sustainable energy infrastructure offers a robust platform for L&T to deploy its advanced technologies and project management expertise.
The expansion of Larsen & Toubro into the Middle Eastern renewable energy sector reflects a strategic alignment with global energy trends and regional sustainability goals. These projects not only enhance L&T’s portfolio but also contribute significantly to the region’s energy security and sustainability efforts. By capitalizing on its engineering prowess and project execution capabilities, L&T is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the renewable energy landscapes both in India and abroad.
