Tamil Nadu shattered: Fiery explosion engulfs firecracker factory, killing eight

A shocking explosion in Krishnagiri district’s firecracker factory turned a normal Saturday into a nightmare for the residents of Tamil Nadu, as at least eight people, including three women, met a horrifying end. The blast not only ripped through the firecracker factory but also shattered nearby homes and shops, causing significant damage and injury.

The Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police, Saroj Kumar Thakur, reported that the devastating explosion originated from the firecracker manufacturing warehouse in Pazhayapettai, its fiery tendrils quickly engulfing nearby establishments. Initially, seven individuals were declared dead, but this tragic count rose to eight as another soul succumbed to their injuries.

The scene of the disaster painted a horrific picture, with images and videos showing police and fire services personnel immersed in ongoing rescue efforts. The cause of this shocking explosion remains shrouded in mystery.

Responding to the tragic event, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his deep sorrow and sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones in this horrifying accident. Modi also promised financial aid, announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 2,00,000 for the next of kin of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), and Rs 50,000 for those injured.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his heartfelt condolences and prayers for the fast recovery of the injured.
