KIMS Hospitals expands in Maharashtra with UAIMS Hospital partnership
Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Limited (KIMS), one of India‘s largest corporate healthcare providers, has expanded its footprint in Maharashtra through a strategic hospital partnership with Ushahkal Abhinav Institute of Medical Sciences (UAIMS Hospital) in Sangli. The collaboration enables KIMS Hospitals to take over the management and operations of UAIMS Hospital, strengthening its presence in the state’s rapidly growing healthcare sector.
As part of the agreement, KIMS Hospitals also retains a call option, allowing it to acquire a majority stake in UAIMS Hospital in the coming years. While this option does not constitute an obligation, it underscores KIMS’ long-term strategy of growth through hospital acquisitions and healthcare expansion Maharashtra initiatives. The partnership was formalized through an agreement between Dr. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of KIMS Hospitals, and Dr. Milind Parikh, Designated Partner of Ushahkal Abhinav Institute of Medical Sciences LLP. Moving forward, the hospital will be rebranded as KIMS-UAIMS Hospital.
Why Is This Partnership Significant for KIMS Hospitals?
The partnership with UAIMS Hospital aligns with KIMS Hospitals’ broader expansion strategy in Maharashtra, where it has been consistently strengthening its presence through hospital acquisitions and infrastructure investments. The group made its entry into the Maharashtra market by acquiring Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur in 2022. In 2024, KIMS Hospitals commenced operations at a second facility in Nashik. Further reinforcing its footprint, KIMS Hospitals has already announced a 300-bed multi-specialty hospital in Thane, scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of the next financial year.
Dr. Bhaskar Rao emphasized that the collaboration in Sangli is a strategic move to bring advanced medical infrastructure to underserved regions in Maharashtra. He reiterated that KIMS Hospitals is committed to making tertiary and quaternary healthcare accessible and affordable across multiple locations in the state.

Located on a sprawling four-acre campus, the hospital boasts one of the highest floor area-to-bed ratios in Maharashtra. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure, including advanced imaging technologies such as MRI and CT scanners, along with 15 fully operational, modern surgical theatres. A dedicated mother and child care unit spans an entire floor, reflecting the hospital’s focus on specialized maternal and pediatric care.
UAIMS Hospital also prioritizes critical care services, with over 100 ICU beds featuring advanced medical equipment to support patients with complex health conditions. In addition, the hospital has announced plans for a day-care oncology center, which is currently under construction. The oncology center is expected to be operational in 2025, further enhancing the region’s cancer care capabilities.
How Does This Expansion Align with KIMS Hospitals’ Growth Strategy?
KIMS Hospitals has been pursuing an aggressive growth strategy through both greenfield and brownfield expansion models. By integrating UAIMS Hospital into its network, KIMS Hospitals aims to optimize medical infrastructure expansion while ensuring continuity of patient care. The group has been strategically identifying healthcare markets with high demand for specialized services and investing in facilities that meet these needs.
According to Dr. Bhaskar Rao, Maharashtra remains a key market for the group, and KIMS Hospitals will continue to explore new partnerships, acquisitions, and infrastructural developments to enhance healthcare accessibility. He also highlighted that KIMS Hospitals’ model of affordable, advanced, and accessible healthcare has been instrumental in shaping the company’s rapid expansion across multiple states.
What Does the Future Hold for KIMS Hospitals in Maharashtra?
With the inclusion of UAIMS Hospital, KIMS Hospitals now operates four hospitals in Maharashtra, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted provider of multi-specialty healthcare services. The group currently manages 18 hospitals across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala, with ongoing projects in Bangalore and Mumbai.
KIMS Hospitals’ expansion strategy remains focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centric healthcare while leveraging advanced medical technologies.
