In a significant move within the offshore energy sector, Jumbo Offshore Installation Contractors B.V. (“Jumbo Offshore”) has been awarded a pivotal contract by MODEC Guyana Inc. (“MODEC”) for the pre-installation of the mooring spread of the FPSO Errea Wittu, set to operate offshore Guyana.
The FPSO Errea Wittu, aptly named to signify “abundance,” is designed to be a powerhouse in the oil production arena. With a staggering capacity to store 2 million barrels of oil, it is set to produce approximately 250,000 barrels of oil per day. In addition to its oil capacity, the FPSO boasts a gas treatment capability of 540 million cubic feet per day and a water injection capacity of 350,000 barrels per day.
This contract comes on the heels of MODEC Group’s authorization to proceed with the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) scope for the FPSO in May 2023. The decision followed a final investment nod by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited and its co-venturers. Adding to the project’s sophistication, the FPSO’s mooring system, supplied by SOFEC, Inc. (a MODEC Group company), comprises nineteen mooring legs, underlining the complexity and scale of the operation.
Jumbo Offshore’s approach to this project involves utilizing its unique Heavy Lift Construction Vessel Fairplayer. This vessel is renowned for its efficiency in transporting and installing large structures, including the 19 suction anchors, 8,800 meters of chain sections, and 43,168 meters of polyester rope. This method is expected to minimize the number of installation voyages, simplifying the logistics involved in this massive undertaking.
Igor Rijnberg, Head of Sales and Business Development Subsea at Jumbo Offshore, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and confidence in delivering a reliable, smart, and efficient project execution. Brian Boutkan, Manager of Commerce at Jumbo Offshore, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to safety and reliability.
The success of the FPSO Errea Wittu project is crucial, not only for Jumbo Offshore and MODEC but also for the broader offshore oil and gas industry. It represents a significant step in harnessing natural resources efficiently and responsibly, contributing to global energy demands. As the project progresses, the industry eyes are set on this collaboration, potentially setting new benchmarks in offshore oil and gas operations.
