JSW Steel USA deploys Smart EPD Platform to calculate environmental impact

Indian steel company JSW Steel said that its subsidiary JSW Steel USA is collaborating with TrueNorth Collective to deploy the Smart EPD Platform for monitoring, publishing, and digitally determining the environmental impact of its product portfolio.

JSW Steel USA is claimed to be the first steel producer in the US in adopting Smart EPD for publishing environmental product declarations (EPDs), which are globally accepted, third-party verified documents that offer clear and transparent details of the environmental impact of a product across its supply or value chain.

Anna Lasso — Smart EPD Founder said: “The manufacturing community needs efficient and scalable ways to publish and share EPD data, and we applaud JSW’s commitment to transparency and leadership in this space.”

According to JSW Steel, its US subsidiary has partnered with TrueNorth Collective, a consultancy which built a custom EPD generator based on the steel maker’s operations. The EPD generator calculates the environmental impacts throughout JSW Steel USA’s product portfolio of plate, slab, hot rolled and coil, and pipe steel products.
