JSW Steel gets environmental nod for Rs 650bn steel plant in Odisha

JSW Utkal Steel (JUSL), a fully-owned subsidiary of JSW Steel, has secured the environmental clearance (EC) for establishing a greenfield integrated steel plant in Odisha from the Indian government.

The clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment & Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is for a steel factory with a capacity of 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of crude steel.

JSW Steel is expected to invest nearly INR 65,000 crores in the steel plant project and its associated facilities.

According to JSW Steel, the phase-wise work for the steel factory will begin after the land is handed over to JSW Utkal Steel by the state government.

JSW Steel stated: “The mega project will generate huge employment opportunities in the region, which in turn will boost the economy of Odisha state.”
