J.M. Smucker Co. to invest $1.1bn in sandwich manufacturing plant in McCalla

The J.M. Smucker Co. (Smucker’s) revealed plans to invest $1.1 billion to construct a new manufacturing plant and distribution center in McCalla, Alabama.

The facility will be dedicated to produce Smucker’s Uncrustables sandwiches, said the American food and beverages company.

Expected to break ground before January 2022, the sandwich producing plant is targeted to begin operations in 2025.

The new McCalla manufacturing plant and distribution center will be the third manufacturing location dedicated to the Smucker’s Uncrustables brand apart from existing facilities in Scottsville in Kentucky, and Longmont in Colorado.

J.M. Smucker Co. said that the new facility along with a completed expansion at the Longmont plant will support its strategy to more than double its present production capacity.

Construction of the McCalla manufacturing plant and distribution center and production will be executed in three phases over multiple years. It will generate up to 750 jobs.

“Not only will the Company’s growth project create a large number of jobs in McCalla, but it will also permit us to build a long-standing relationship with a top consumer brand.”
