Israeli Prime Minister vows self-defense in response to Iranian aggression

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated on Wednesday, April 17, that Israel will independently decide its response to Iran’s recent missile and drone attacks, despite international calls for restraint. This declaration comes as the United States, the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations, and the European Union announced intentions to impose tougher sanctions on Iran, hoping to dissuade Israel from launching retaliatory strikes.

In a context of escalating tensions, Netanyahu expressed gratitude to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and British Foreign Minister David Cameron, who visited Israel to urge de-escalation between Israel and Iran. Netanyahu, however, emphasized Israel’s autonomy in security decisions: “I want to be clear: we will make our decisions ourselves. The state of Israel will do whatever is necessary to defend itself,” he affirmed during a cabinet meeting.
