Infineon Technologies acquires Cypress Semiconductor in €9bn deal

Infineon acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor : German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies has wrapped up its previously announced €9.0 billion acquisition of US-based Cypress Semiconductor.

As per the deal announced in June 2019, Infineon Technologies offered to acquire Cypress Semiconductor for $23.85 per share. The acquisition has been taken by the German semiconductor manufacturer to bolster its focus on structural growth drivers and cater to a broader variety of applications.

The acquisition is also expected to accelerate Infineon Technologies’ path of profitable growth of recent years.

Infineon Technologies said that Cypress Semiconductor brings to it a differentiated portfolio of microcontrollers, connectivity components, software ecosystems, and also high- performance memories. The German semiconductor manufacturer claims that all this is highly complementary to its own power semiconductors, automotive microcontrollers, sensors and security solutions.

The company further said that combining the technology assets will enable advanced solutions for high-growth applications like ADAS/AD, IoT, and 5G mobile infrastructure. Apart from that the addition of Cypress Semiconductor’s strong capabilities in research and development and its presence in the US and Japan will boost the connections of Infineon Technologies with customers across the world.
