Indraprastha Gas to boost clean energy with new CBG plants in four states
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), a leading entity in the Indian City Gas Distribution sector, has announced a significant stride towards sustainability and clean energy by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with two technology partners during India Energy Week 2024. This initiative is aimed at establishing Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across four key Indian states: Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Further enhancing its commitment to green energy, IGL has also empaneled two additional partners for the development of these biogas facilities. The collaboration underscores a vital effort to integrate biogas produced from 19 plants into IGL’s extensive City Gas Distribution network, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s operations.
The signing ceremony of the MOUs was graced by prominent figures including Praveen Mal Khanooja, IA &AS, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), K.K Chatiwal, Managing Director of IGL, Pawan Kumar, Director (Commercial) of Indraprastha Gas Limited, alongside other senior officials. This partnership is poised to generate 0.45 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meters per Day) of biogas from waste, which will contribute approximately 5% of IGL’s daily gas requirements. This initiative not only aims to bolster the supply of clean energy but also signifies a crucial step towards reducing the carbon footprint of urban energy consumption.
IGL’s move to establish CBG plants is a testament to the company’s dedication to embracing renewable energy sources and enhancing energy security in the region. By converting waste into biogas, Indraprastha Gas Limited is setting a precedent for sustainable energy solutions that cater to the growing needs of urban populations. This endeavor aligns with the national objective of increasing the use of clean fuels and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, thereby contributing to the global fight against climate change.
