Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), a renowned natural gas distributor, and IndusInd Bank, a leading financial institution, have announced a strategic alliance to support the Digital Rupee, India’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in 2022. This collaboration signifies a major step in enhancing digital currency use in India, enabling customers at selected IGL stations in Delhi NCR to conduct transactions using the Digital Rupee.
Facilitating Digital Transactions at CNG Stations
Customers will now have the convenience of making payments through the Digital Rupee at various Indraprastha Gas Limited CNG stations, thanks to the collaboration’s focus on UPI interoperability. This allows users to scan any UPI QR with their Digital Rupee App across IGL’s network. IndusInd Bank, as a key participant in the RBI’s CBDC initiative, is committed to providing a comprehensive digital payment experience through the adoption of Digital Currency.
User-Friendly Digital Currency Solutions
The Digital Rupee solution is accessible on both iOS and Android platforms, offering a user-friendly interface. It supports various payment modes including peer-to-peer (P2P) and peer-to-merchant (P2M) transactions, fully compatible with UPI QR interoperability.
A Vision for a Digitally Empowered Economy
Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Limited, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its role in promoting a secure, inclusive, and efficient digital transaction mode. This collaboration between IGL and IndusInd Bank not only furthers the adoption of the digital rupee but also demonstrates their commitment to offering customers a seamless and secure digital payment experience.
