IKEA Norfolk opening fixed for 10 April 2019
IKEA Norfolk opening : Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA is all set to open its 50th store in the US on 10 April at Norfolk in Virginia.
The home furnishings retailer broke ground on what is its second store in Virginia in November 2017. The new IKEA store in Norfolk is located centrally within the Hampton Roads area.
IKEA Norfolk, which is spread over an area of 331,000 sft, follows same exclusive architecture design and layout as most of the company’s stores across the world.
Constructed on 19 acres on the northwestern corner of Interstate 64 and Northhampton Boulevard, and eight miles east of downtown Norfolk, IKEA Norfolk will present nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 42 inspirational room settings, four model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area along with a 354-seat restaurant serving Swedish and American cuisine including the popular IKEA meatballs.
The new IKEA store in Virginia is powered by a solar rooftop array and is also equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The new IKEA store in Norfolk created more than 500 construction jobs and will have nearly 250 co-workers working it after its opening.
IKEA Norfolk jobs are still available in areas like sales, customer service, receiving, warehouse, goods flow and stock replenishment.
On the IKEA Norfolk store opening date, customers can come and line up at the store as early as 5:00 AM local.
Commenting on IKEA Norfolk store opening, the store manager Charlie Plisco, said: “We are happy with the construction progress to date at the future IKEA Norfolk store.
“We are confident we will be ready to open our doors by April and look forward to recruiting and training new co-workers joining the IKEA family, as well as sharing the IKEA experience with future customers in the Hampton Roads area.”
In December 2018, IKEA announced the opening of its first city center store in the US in the form of IKEA Planning Studio, which is scheduled to come up in Manhattan in spring 2019.
