Home appliance company GE Appliances to invest $200m in Louisville

Home appliance company GE Appliances (GEA) will make two separate investments totaling over $200 million to expand its dishwasher and laundry manufacturing facilities in Louisville, Kentucky.

The investments will be used in Appliance Park, the largest manufacturing facility of the home appliance company and also in its headquarters location in Louisville, throughout 2018 and 2019.

The expansion projects will bring in 400 new jobs in Louisville, said the home appliance company owned by Haier.

GE Appliances will invest in its laundry production plant to accommodate a new topload washer, a completely new dryer platform and also additional production capacity for existing models.

Expansion of the Louisville laundry production plant will boost its manufacturing capacity by nearly 20%.

GE Appliances will also invest in dishwasher production to expand the production capabilities of its dishwasher production plant in Louisville by 35% for new plastic and stainless-steel tub models.

Commenting on the expansions of the dishwasher and laundry manufacturing plants, Kevin Nolan – president and CEO for GE Appliances, said: “The investments we are making today continue our mission of creating product and production supersites where we can more efficiently channel our innovation and manufacturing expertise by product line.

“This will greatly accelerate our ability to provide innovative new products that will delight consumers, expand our workforce and enhance our leadership in the major appliance industry.”

GE Appliances’ Louisville production plant employs over 6,000 people. The home appliance company said that through the next five years, Appliance Park is anticipated to boost its economic impact to Louisville by an additional amount of $18 billion.

Earlier in the year, the home appliance company announced multiple investments in its US operations totaling $275 million, which will add more than 650 new jobs.

The investments from GE Appliances are expected to help in its growth and advance the availability of its products and technologies to consumers. Its announcements in the past included expansions at facilities in Selmer, Tennessee, and Decatur, Alabama, and four new distribution plants.
