Hitachi Energy has inaugurated a state-of-the-art transformers factory in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing Municipality, southwestern China. The new factory stands as one of the largest Hitachi Energy facilities globally, incorporating advanced digital manufacturing technologies to meet rapidly growing customer demand.
Hitachi Energy’s Commitment to Sustainable and Secure Energy Systems
“The energy transition in China requires deployment of innovative technologies at scale and with speed. The new facility is a good example of the needed collaboration with partners and all involved stakeholders. It is another example of our commitment to accelerate investment in innovation, digitalization and people to support our customers to advance the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible and secure,” said Claudio Facchin, CEO, Hitachi Energy.
From a Joint Venture to a Major Research and Manufacturing Base
Established in 1998, the facility is Hitachi Energy’s first joint venture in western China and has evolved into one of the company’s largest transformer research and manufacturing bases. The factory provides various products and services including power transformers, shunt reactors, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter transformers, and insulation kits.
Emphasis on Intelligent Operations and Continuous Innovation
JinQuan Zhang, Region Head of Greater China and Executive Vice President, Hitachi Energy, said: “Thanks to the unwavering support from the partners and all involved stakeholders, the Chongqing factory has become a prominent example for Hitachi Energy to drive local innovation with global technology and lead high-quality development in the industry. With a focus on intelligent operations and continuous innovation in the new facility, Hitachi Energy will further deepen the local presence, and continue to work with customers and partners to contribute to advancing a sustainable energy future in China and beyond.”
Technological Advancements in the New Facility
The company relocated to Liangjiang New Area in early 2023, and the factory now boasts of significantly improved production efficiency. Through the implementation of industrial automation and robotics, the facility has accelerated its manufacturing processes. Real-time energy management systems are also in place to optimize equipment maintenance and production data, thereby enhancing cost-effectiveness throughout the value chain.
Aligning with Environmental Sustainability Goals
As part of Hitachi Energy’s sustainability initiatives, the modern factory incorporates eco-friendly measures designed to minimize its overall carbon footprint. These measures align with the company’s long-term vision for a more sustainable energy future.
Key Projects and Global Outreach
Around 2,000 power transformers have already been delivered from the Chongqing factory to notable projects worldwide, including the Three Gorges hydro project and the Al Dhafra PV2 solar project in Abu Dhabi. The facility’s outputs are pivotal in shaping the future of global energy infrastructure.
