HFCL wins $30m contract for Kanpur Metro and Agra Metro projects

Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd. (HFCL) has bagged an order worth INR2.21 billion ($30 million) from Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) pertaining to the Kanpur Metro (Corridor-I and Corridor-II) and Agra Metro (Corridor-I) projects.

The fiber optic cable manufacturing company will be responsible for establishing telecommunication systems for 32.4kms of the Kanpur Metro and also 14kms of the Agra Metro. The projects are expected to be wrapped up in the next 33 months.

HFCL’s work includes design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of fiber optic transmission system, telephone system, train radio tetra system, master clock system, passenger information display system, public address system, CCTV system, access control system, and uninterrupted power system, supply of spares, and DLP maintenance. The company will also be responsible for training employees, who will be engaged in the operation and maintenance of the systems.

The Agra Metro Project broke ground in December 2020. It will connect major tourist sites such as Taj Mahal, Sikandra, Agra Fort with the other transport nodes in Agra, which include railway stations and bus stands.

HFCL said that civil construction works related to the Kanpur Metro’s priority corridor which is from IIT to Motijheel were awarded in 2020.

In this, HFCL will design, manufacture and install telecommunication systems for Kanpur Metro and Agra Metro that will boost smart rail connectivity of citizens and travelers in these important cities and make them future ready.

“There were some large Indian and multinational companies participating in this tender but HFCL won the order competitively based on our deep expertise and vast experience in successfully executing such metro & rail projects domestically as well as internationally.”

Earlier, HFCL had installed telecommunication networks for rail projects with Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) for Eastern and also Western Dedicated Freight Corridors. The fiber optic cable manufacturing company had also executed metro rail projects in Bangladesh and Mauritius among others.
