HEG Limited sets global benchmark with largest single-roof graphite electrode facility
HEG Limited has announced the successful completion of its expansion project, catapulting the company’s capacity from 80,000 tons to a world-leading 100,000 tons annually. This milestone makes HEG’s facility the most extensive Graphite Electrodes Plant globally housed under one roof. Despite previous disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company triumphed, with the final process shop commencing commercial production as of 1st November 2023.
State-of-the-Art Expansion at HEG Limited
The expansion, which represents an investment of approximately Rs. 1200 crore over three years, stands as a testament to HEG’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The adoption of the latest, environmentally-friendly technologies not only fortifies HEG’s production capabilities but also its status as one of the most modern plants in existence. “Company has taken special care to get the state of the art equipment and technologies which are also environmentally friendly,” highlights the firm’s dedication to green manufacturing practices.
HEG Limited and the Shift to Greener Steel Production
In an era where decarbonisation is pivotal, HEG’s completion of this project is timely. The global trend is increasingly favoring Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) over traditional Blast Furnaces due to the former’s lower carbon emissions—about a quarter of that produced by Blast Furnaces. HEG’s expanded facility is strategically positioned to meet the rising demand for Graphite Electrodes required for EAFs, underscoring the company’s enhanced role in the green transformation of steel production. With this expansion, HEG cements its position as the third-largest graphite electrode manufacturer in the western hemisphere, ready to meet the decarbonised future of steel manufacturing.
