Heavy rainfall and landslides hit Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

Uttarakhand faces severe disruptions as continuous rainfall incites landslides and flash floods in multiple areas. Similarly, Himachal Pradesh grapples with the aftermath of downpours that initiated landslides, leading to the obstruction of the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway. Meanwhile, Delhi is poised for a warm and humid Sunday, contrasting with forecasts of light to moderate rainfall in several northwest India regions, encompassing parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and certain northeast segments.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a trend of light to moderate rainfall scattered across northwest India until Sunday. Himachal Pradesh may witness isolated bouts of heavy rainfall during this time. Uttarakhand remains on alert for heightened rainfall until August 15. Punjab and Haryana are slated for rain this Sunday, with west Uttar Pradesh expecting showers on both Sunday and Monday. Conversely, areas of east Uttar Pradesh will likely experience rainfall on Sunday.

In east India, forecasts suggest light to moderate and fairly widespread rainfall, coupled with isolated heavy rain spells on Sunday. This pattern is expected in regions like Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Gangetic West Bengal. Jharkhand also remains under the radar for rain activity this Sunday.

The northeast braces for light to moderate and widespread rainfall, including isolated instances of heavier downpours lasting until August 15. However, the rest of northwest India might experience a lull in rainfall over the forthcoming week.

Central, west, and south India regions like coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Kerala project subdued rainfall in the upcoming days. Notably, coastal Andhra Pradesh should prepare for hot and humid conditions today.
