Gunman storms Colorado Supreme Court in frenzied attack after downtown car wreck
In a stunning and alarming event, a man involved in a car wreck near the Colorado Supreme Court building in downtown Denver unleashed chaos. The incident, occurring in the early hours of Tuesday, saw the man forcefully entering the building, causing “extensive damage” with gunfire.
Dramatic Scene at the Colorado Supreme Court:
After the car wreck, which happened just by the Supreme Court building around 1:15 a.m., the driver, wielding a handgun, shot his way through a window and gained access to the building. The Colorado State Patrol and Denver Police Department, who responded to the incident, reported that the gunman held up an unarmed security guard, obtained a key, and made his way to the seventh floor, where he continued his rampage.
Gunman Surrenders After Firing Shots:
The statement from authorities did not identify the gunman but confirmed that he called 911 at 3 a.m. and eventually surrendered voluntarily to the police. Remarkably, there were no injuries to other people during this harrowing event.
No Connection to Colorado Supreme Court’s Trump Ruling:
Despite recent threats to the Colorado justices following their 4-3 ruling last month on a constitutional provision related to former President Donald Trump, authorities have stated that Tuesday’s incident appears unrelated. Trump is expected to appeal the Colorado ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Shattered Glass and Police Guard:
Hours after the crash and subsequent shooting, the Supreme Court building bore the scars of the incident, with a large shattered window and glass strewn across the sidewalk. A state patrol trooper stood guard at the scene, underscoring the severity of the breach.
