Greatland Gold reveals promising nickel prospects at Panorama Project in Western Australia

Greatland Gold plc, a prominent mining company, has announced significant findings from its soil sampling program at the Panorama East, Panorama, and Panorama North tenures. Located 200km southeast of Port Hedland in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, these areas are known for their Archean gold and nickel potential. The key highlight of the sampling program was the identification of a nickel anomaly extending over a 1.4km strike with a peak nickel concentration of 0.3% in a rock chip sample.

Details of the Sampling Program and Results

The comprehensive soil and rock chip sampling program, aimed at exploring the strike extent of previous surface sample results and investigating conductors identified in an airborne electromagnetic survey, has brought promising results. Of particular interest are the 27 soil samples from the Ni_04 prospect showing more than 0.1% nickel. Furthermore, an 800-meter coherent nickel anomaly exceeding 0.18% was discovered within the Dalton Suite ultramafics, confirming its potential as a primary nickel sulphide host. Greatland’s Managing Director, Shaun Day, emphasized the importance of these findings, highlighting the extensive reach of the Dalton Suite ultramafics and the presence of untested conductors, fueling optimism for a substantial nickel discovery.

Overview of the Panorama Project and Previous Work

The Panorama project, encompassing approximately 157 square kilometers, features predominantly greenstone and granite geology typical of the Archean Pilbara Craton. The area, particularly the Dalton Suite ultramafics, has been previously identified as anomalous for nickel. A detailed aeromagnetic survey supplemented by an airborne electromagnetic survey pinpointed 28 conductors, 12 within the Dalton Suite, potentially correlating to massive sulphides. These findings have been instrumental in guiding the recent surface sampling program.

Future Plans and Expectations

With the latest surface sampling results reinforcing the nickel anomaly in the NI_04 prospect and enhancing the prospectivity of the Dalton Suite ultramafics, Greatland Gold is now planning further steps to test both geochemical and geophysical anomalies in the area. This ambitious approach underscores the company’s commitment to exploring and potentially developing nickel resources in the region.
