Gravita India expands recycling operations with new Ghana facility
Gravita India Limited, a prominent name in the recycling industry, has announced a significant expansion in its global operations with the commissioning of a new aluminum recycling facility in Ghana. Operated under its subsidiary, Recyclers Ghana Limited, the plant has begun commercial production of recycled aluminum alloys, marking a pivotal moment in Gravita’s strategy to enhance its global presence in sustainable recycling.
The Ghana facility, which commenced operations on 1st January 2025, features an annual production capacity of 4,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) in its first phase. Gravita has ambitious plans to double this capacity to 8,000 MTPA in subsequent phases, showcasing its long-term commitment to scaling operations in high-potential markets.
A Sustainable Investment for Growth
Gravita India Limited invested approximately ₹6.75 crore in the facility’s first phase, leveraging internal accruals to fund the venture. This plant represents not just a financial milestone but also a commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing practices. By sourcing domestic aluminum scrap from Ghana for production, Gravita is reducing dependency on external raw material imports and promoting sustainability within the local economy.
The recycled aluminum alloys produced at the facility are set to cater to the demanding automotive and die-casting industries in Europe and Asia. This strategic focus aligns with Gravita’s broader mission of meeting global sustainability standards while driving growth through innovative recycling solutions.
Expanding Gravita’s Aluminum Recycling Footprint
Gravita’s Ghana facility is a critical addition to its network of aluminum recycling plants, which already includes operations in Senegal, Mozambique, Tanzania, Togo, and India. The company’s growing global footprint is underpinned by its vision to replicate successful recycling models across diverse geographies, ensuring scalability and regional adaptation.
With 12 advanced recycling facilities worldwide and a cumulative processing capacity of 3,08,659 MTPA, Gravita is well-positioned to remain a leader in the global recycling sector. The company’s three-decade-long expertise in recycling extends to over 70 countries, enabling it to meet varied industrial demands while advancing circular economy principles.
Enhancing Revenue Through Diversification
The Ghana facility is poised to significantly diversify Gravita’s revenue streams. By increasing the contribution of its aluminum business, the company aims to strengthen its sales mix and capture a larger share of the global recycling market. This move not only boosts profitability but also underscores Gravita’s commitment to developing solutions that align with the environmental priorities of its clients.
Expert Opinions on Sustainability and Innovation
Experts in the recycling and manufacturing sectors have highlighted the importance of Gravita’s Ghana facility as a step towards sustainable industrial practices.
