Godrej Agrovet unveils Pride Hog feed range to strengthen pig health and farmer livelihoods
Godrej Agrovet Limited, a leading agri-business company in India, has launched a pig feed range, “Godrej Pride Hog,” designed to address the unique nutritional needs of pigs across different stages of growth. This new product marks a significant step towards enhancing pig health and immunity while supporting the livelihoods of marginal farmers. The launch event in Guwahati underscored the urgent need for advanced feeding solutions amidst the challenges posed by African Swine Fever (ASF), a disease with devastating impacts on pig farming in India’s North East.
Addressing Pig Nutrition at Every Stage
The Pride Hog feed range is scientifically formulated to cater to the diverse needs of pigs at different life stages, ensuring balanced nutrition that enhances growth and immunity. The product line includes three variants:
Pride Hog Starter: For piglets aged 2 weeks to 2 months.
Pride Hog Grower: Tailored for pigs aged 2 to 4 months.
Pride Hog Finisher: Designed for pigs aged 4 months onward, optimising their readiness for trading.
This stage-specific approach aims to combat common health challenges such as piglet mortality and diarrhoea while ensuring steady weight gain and resilience.
A Targeted Solution for North East India
The North East region, home to nearly 50% of India’s nine-million pig population, faces significant hurdles due to ASF outbreaks and limited access to quality feed. Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet, highlighted the region’s importance in the company’s strategy, noting that pig farming is a critical source of income for small and marginal farmers. The introduction of Godrej Pride Hog is expected to provide these farmers with a reliable, high-quality feed option that supports productivity and profitability.
Tackling the African Swine Fever Crisis
Since its emergence in India in 2020, African Swine Fever has caused widespread economic losses among pig farmers, particularly in the North East. This highly contagious viral disease is marked by a high mortality rate, underscoring the need for preventive strategies.
At the launch event, industry experts such as Dr. Purnananda Konwar of the Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation emphasised the critical role of scientific farming practices and biosecurity measures. These include quarantine protocols, disinfection routines, and controlled pig movements to curb ASF’s spread.
Leveraging Nutrition for Resilience
In the absence of an ASF vaccine, robust nutritional support plays a pivotal role in boosting pigs’ immunity. Capt. (Dr.) A.Y. Rajendra, CEO of Godrej Agrovet’s Animal Feed Business, described Pride Hog as a comprehensive solution, designed not only to support growth but also to enhance resilience against diseases. The feed’s scientifically engineered formulations are a testament to Godrej Agrovet’s commitment to providing sustainable, research-backed agricultural solutions.
A Step Towards Sustainable Agriculture
Godrej Agrovet’s latest initiative aligns with its broader mission to empower Indian farmers through innovative solutions that drive agricultural productivity. With its diversified portfolio spanning animal feed, crop protection, and food processing, the company continues to champion sustainable practices in Indian farming.
The launch of Pride Hog underscores this commitment by addressing the dual challenges of disease management and farmer profitability in one of India’s most vulnerable regions. As the North East region adopts advanced farming techniques, products like Pride Hog are poised to play a transformative role in improving the lives of farming communities.
