Gensol Engineering Ltd., a leader in the renewable energy and electric mobility sectors, has emerged as the lowest bidder for a landmark green hydrogen-based mobility station in Kargil, Ladakh. Collaborating with Matrix Gas & Renewables Ltd. (Matrix), the project is commissioned by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC) and is part of the government’s ambitious green hydrogen targets.
Project Scope and Development
Gensol will develop a 500-kW grid-connected solar power project to supply energy to the hydrogen refueling station. Matrix, an expanding natural gas aggregator and hydrogen infrastructure developer in India, will manage the dual electrolyser units, each with a 30 NM3 capacity. The comprehensive EPC contract encompasses the installation of green hydrogen systems, storage, dispensing facilities, and necessary infrastructure for integrated solar and hydrogen operations in Ladakh.
Pioneering Green Hydrogen Initiative
This innovative project, a first in India, covers the entire green hydrogen supply chain. Gensol pledges to deliver a minimum green hydrogen purity of 99.97%, with the project expected to be completed within 12 months from the issuance of the work order.
Strengthening Market Presence
The NHPC project win is expected to solidify Gensol’s and Matrix’s positions in the market, enhancing their technical expertise and opening new growth opportunities in renewable energy. The collaboration between the two companies, both promoted by common entities, will continue to focus on the green hydrogen domain.
Industry Leadership Remarks
Ali Imran Naqvi, CEO-BD & Project Management at Gensol Engineering Ltd., highlighted the significance of the collaboration with NHPC: “Our collaboration with a state-operated entity such as NHPC bolsters Gensol’s stature and trustworthiness in the industry, creating avenues for additional opportunities and alliances in the green hydrogen sector.”
Chirag Kotecha, Whole-time Director at Matrix Gas and Renewables Limited, expressed the company’s commitment to India’s renewable energy goals: “The forthcoming Green Hydrogen-based mobility station pilot project will establish the technical and commercial feasibility of green hydrogen. This initiative will pave the way for scaling up to larger projects and will contribute significantly to India’s energy security.”
The partnership between Gensol Engineering and Matrix Gas in developing this green hydrogen mobility station marks a significant step towards sustainable transport solutions in India.
