GE Vernova launches advanced hydrogen-ready power plant in Guangdong, China

GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has successfully commenced commercial operations of the Guangdong Huizhou Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant in China. This milestone is powered by GE Vernova’s hydrogen-ready 9HA.01 combined-cycle power generation equipment, capable of injecting up to 1.34 gigawatts (GW) of electricity into the grid.

The Guangdong Huizhou plant, owned by the state-run Guangdong Energy Group Co., Ltd., represents a significant step forward in the integration of hydrogen into mainstream power solutions. The plant’s gas turbines are expected to burn up to 10% hydrogen blended with natural gas within the next two years, aligning with China’s ambitious hydrogen energy development plans for 2035.

The operation of this facility underlines China’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and showcases GE Vernova’s leadership in clean energy technology. By advancing hydrogen technology in power generation, GE Vernova supports the region’s push towards a more sustainable energy future.

The Guangdong Huizhou project is a pivotal development in China’s energy landscape, showcasing how traditional energy sectors can transition towards cleaner alternatives. The project also highlights the successful collaboration between GE Vernova and Harbin Electric. This joint venture, established in 2019, focuses on localizing heavy-duty gas turbine production in China, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the country’s power plants.

GE Vernova has a significant presence in China, serving approximately 110 customers with more than 240 gas turbines. With over 40 years of operation in the region, the company continues to play a crucial role in China’s energy transition, providing innovative solutions and supporting the shift from coal to gas and now to hydrogen-blended technologies.
