Indian courier delivery company Gati launched its first electric vehicle to carry out last mile delivery operations.
The company is undertaking a pilot project in Hyderabad and the National Capital Region (NCR) with an aim to convert a quarter of its 1500 plus business partner fleet in ground operations.
Gati said that it will continue to invest in e-commerce with footprint expansion and introduction of new products including reverse logistics and product exchange.
Mahendra Agarwal – Founder and CEO of Gati said: “I am glad to announce that we have recently introduced eco-friendly Electric Vehicles (EV) for last mile deliveries. We will be piloting home-deliveries of furniture and home accessories in select metro locations.
“We believe that increasing cognizance of environmental sustainability and favorable regulatory environment will drive the adoption of EV cargo fleet and we want to be on forefront of setting these sustainability goals in motion for our end-customers.”
Electric vehicles are expected to help Gati serve its clients in cities where there are entry of heavy vehicles are restricted, particularly during the day. The Indian courier delivery company has also been planning to grow its daily package handling capacity to a million by 2022.
Gati has also been looking to ramp up its warehousing capacity, and grow its network. The Hyderabad courier delivery company with global operations planned to add an additional 8 lakh square feet of space while adding another 100 delivery locations for its courier delivery services.
