Fujitsu and Cohere forge partnership to develop advanced Japanese language AI models
Fujitsu, a global leader in information and communication technology, has announced a strategic partnership with Cohere Inc., a prominent enterprise AI company specializing in security and data privacy. This alliance is set to revolutionize the AI landscape by developing large language models (LLMs) with enhanced Japanese language capabilities, aiming to significantly improve customer and employee experiences across industries.
The partnership will see the creation of an advanced Japanese language model, tentatively named Takane, which is poised to be launched in September 2024. Takane is being developed based on Cohere’s enterprise-grade LLM, Command R+, known for its robust retrieval-augmented generation capabilities that reduce errors and enhance accuracy.
Under this partnership, Fujitsu will also become the exclusive global provider of the services developed jointly with Cohere. These services will be integrated into Fujitsu’s platforms, including the Fujitsu Data Intelligence PaaS and Fujitsu Uvance, which are designed to address cross-industry challenges and promote sustainable business practices.
Takane will primarily cater to industries requiring high levels of data security, such as financial institutions, government agencies, and research and development sectors. It will be available through private cloud environments to ensure the utmost security and confidentiality of enterprise data.
The model leverages Fujitsu’s deep expertise in Japanese language processing and Cohere’s specialized technologies in enterprise AI solutions. This synergy is expected to deliver a superior AI model that not only understands and generates Japanese text efficiently but also integrates seamlessly into diverse corporate ecosystems.
Moreover, the partnership extends beyond language models. Cohere’s capabilities in Embed and Rerank models will enhance enterprise search applications, allowing businesses to extract more significant value from their data repositories through advanced search and data analysis technologies.
This strategic move by Fujitsu and Cohere highlights a significant commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology and its applications, ensuring that enterprises not only keep pace with digital transformation but also lead it in their respective fields.
