First Hyatt Centric hotel in Malaysia to come up in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Malaysian hotel industry news : US hospitality company Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Malaysia-based investment holding company Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad have signed a management agreement to develop the first Hyatt Centric hotel in Malaysia.
To be built in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah state, the Hyatt Centric hotel in Malaysia will offer convenient access to the commercial district, shopping malls, restaurants, airport and other local attractions such as the Jesselton Point pier.
Commenting on the new Hyatt Centric hotel in Kota Kinabalu, David Udell – Hyatt Hotels Corporation Asia-Pacific group president, said: “We are grateful for the collaboration from Hap Seng, one of the most esteemed companies in Malaysia.
“With its prime location in Malaysia’s gateway city to Sabah and Borneo, Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu will cater to adventurous guests looking to discover the area’s culture, cuisine and surrounding national parks.”

Kengo Kuma, the architect and interior designer for Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, will include local materials into the design of the new luxury hotel in Sabah.
The Hyatt Centric hotel in Kota Kinabalu will feature an all-day lounge and restaurant, 600m2 of meeting space, a rooftop swimming pool and a fitness center as per the latest Malaysian hotel industry news.
Patrick Finn – Hyatt Asia-Pacific real estate & development senior vice president, commenting on the Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, said: “We are thrilled to announce plans to introduce the Hyatt Centric brand to one of Malaysia’s key destinations.
“We are focused on strategically growing our brand presence in Malaysia and the introduction of our second Hyatt hotel in Sabah will enable us to provide more diverse experiences for guests.”

Expected to open in 2021, the new luxury hotel in Sabah will also feature a bar that will overlook the beauty of South China Sea.
Commenting on the new Hyatt Centric hotel in Malaysia, Dato’ Jorgen Bornhoft – Hap Seng chairman said: “We’re honoured to announce plans to fly the first Hyatt Centric flag in Malaysia, and more importantly, the very first hotel by the Hap Seng group.
“Leaving no stone unturned, we have decided to engage the world-renowned Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma to design the hotel. We hope this speaks to Hap Seng’s commitment to bring a best-in-class experience to Sabah while creating job opportunities and driving tourism.”
