Equinox Gold said that it has temporarily suspended mining activities at its Los Filos Mine in Mexico since 3 September due to an “illegal road blockade” by members of the neighboring Carrizalillo community.
The Canadian gold mining company said that the individuals are accusing it of not complying with the community social collaboration agreement, which was signed last year.
According to Equinox Gold, the Los Filos Mine continues to be staffed with a reduced workforce to ensure appropriate safety, security, and environmental systems.
The Canadian gold mining company further said that it is in active talks with the Carrizalillo community leaders to resolve the problems.
Located in the Guerrero State, the Los Filos gold mine has been in production since 2008. Equinox Gold became the owner of the Los Filos Mine following its acquisition of Leagold Mining (Read Equinox Gold acquisition of Leagold Mining).
