Equinor Energy has secured drilling permit from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) for well 31/11-1 S in production licence 785 S (PL 785 S) in the Norwegian North Sea.
The company will drill well 31/11-1 S with the Deepsea Atlantic drilling facility. The wildcat well will be drilled 62 kilometres, south of the Troll field.
Equinor Energy is the operator of the production licence 785 S with an ownership stake of 50%. The company’s partner in the North Sea block is Total E&P Norge, which holds the remaining 50% stake.
The area in the production licence 785 S consists of parts of the 26/2 and 31/11 blocks.
Production licence 785 S was awarded in February 2015 as part of APA 2014. 31/11-1 S is the first exploration well to be drilled in this licence.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the permit is subject to Equinor Energy obtaining all other permits and consents needed by other authorities before beginning the drilling activity.
