In an unprecedented move, Ahmedabad city is set to witness a security spectacle with over 6,000 personnel deployed at the Narendra Modi stadium for the thrilling World Cup final between cricket giants India and five-time champions Australia on November 19. The announcement was made by Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police GS Malik, signalling a high-stakes operation for the mega cricket event.
High-Profile Attendance and Elaborate Security Plans
The grand finale, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Deputy PM Richard Marles, and other eminent personalities, has triggered extensive security measures. The Gujarat police, Rapid Action Force (RAF), and home guards are among the forces mobilized to safeguard the over one lakh spectators and dignitaries.
Inside the Stadium: A Fortress of Security
GS Malik outlined that nearly half of the 6,000 personnel will be stationed inside the stadium, with the RAF maintaining a strong presence both inside and outside the venue. A temporary command and control centre equipped with fail-safe wireless communication will be operational to coordinate security efforts.
Senior Officials to Oversee Security Operations
Four senior IPS officials of IG and DIG rank, along with 23 deputy commissioners of police, will spearhead the security operations. They will be assisted by a team of assistant commissioners and police inspectors, ensuring airtight security for the match day.
Emergency Response Teams on Standby
In an extraordinary move, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be deployed to handle any chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear emergencies. Additionally, bomb detection squads and elite Chetak Commandos will be strategically positioned near the stadium.
Police Dismiss Unverified Threats
Addressing potential security threats, GS Malik urged the media to not amplify unverified threats from external sources. He emphasized the preparedness of the security forces to handle any situation, downplaying the need for undue recognition of such threats.
Distinguished Guests to Witness the Cricket Spectacle
The final match is expected to draw a host of dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti, and other international and national figures. Adding to the grandeur, the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran aerobatics team will perform an air show before the match.
