Energean, after its successful five-well exploration campaign in the East Mediterranean, takes another monumental step towards natural gas production offshore Israel. Collaborating with TechnipFMC, Energean is set to further develop the regionally significant Katlan and Tanin blocks, collectively known as the “Olympus Area,” which holds an estimated 68 bcm of natural gas.
Energean and TechnipFMC Seal Deal with LOA on FEED
Energean and TechnipFMC have solidified their partnership through a Letter of Award (LOA) on Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED). This will speed up TechnipFMC’s work on an integrated FEED study, providing the foundation for a comprehensive subsea architecture design. This design will be integral for the final investment decision (FID) support package for the Katlan field development.
Timeline Revealed: FEED Study Expected to Complete by December 2023
The final contract between Energean and TechnipFMC is projected to be finalized in September, with the comprehensive FEED study expected to wrap up by December 2023. This will pave the way for the broader development of the Katlan gas field, offshore Israel.
Israeli Government Approval to Set Stage for Katlan Field Production
In May 2023, Energean secured Official Recognition of Natural Gas Discovery for the Olympus area, now renamed Katlan (Orca). This approval permits Energean to submit a deed of possession and a development plan. With the green light from the Israeli Government, Energean can transition from exploration to actual gas production.
In summary, the collaboration between Energean and TechnipFMC is a critical development for natural gas production in Israel’s offshore sectors. With the FEED study set to be complete by the end of 2023, the Katlan field is well on its way to becoming a key contributor to the region’s energy supply. Stay tuned for more updates on this dynamic partnership.
