Wind industry news : EDF Renewables North America has acquired the 300MW Milligan 1 Wind Project in Nebraska from York Nebraska Wind Partners, a partnership made of Aksamit Resource Management and York Capital Management, for an undisclosed price.
The new wind farm in Nebraska, which is currently in the development stage, is expected to begin operations in late 2020.
To be built in Saline County in Southern Nebraska, the Milligan 1 Wind Farm is the first project of EDF Renewables in Nebraska.
Upon its completion, the EDF wind farm in Nebraska is expected to supply enough power to meet the consumption of up to 115,000 average homes.
As per US EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalences calculations, the power generated from the Milligan 1 Wind Farm is equivalent to offsetting over 900,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions a year which is same as taking off 190,000 passenger vehicles a year from the road.
Power generated from the Nebraska wind farm and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) will be sold into the Southwest Power Pool.
Commenting on the Milligan 1 Wind Farm, Matthew McCluskey – Senior Director of Development for EDF Renewables, said: “EDF Renewables is pleased to bring 30 years of expertise in development, construction, and operation to Nebraska.
“Nebraska’s abundant wind resource and supportive regulatory environment combine to create an opportunity for EDF Renewables to bring the benefits of jobs, landowner payments, and state and local tax revenue to the local community.”
Earlier this month, EDF Renewables North America announced the commissioning of its 80MW Copenhagen Wind Project in Lewis and Jefferson counties in New York. Comprising 40 wind turbines from Vestas, the Copenhagen wind farm will generate enough power to cover the consumption needs of up to 35,000 average homes.
