East Damanhur block : Wintershall Dea draws first gas from ED2-X well in Nile Delta

TAGS

Wintershall Dea, in collaboration with its partners Cheiron Energy, INA, and the Egyptian Gas Holding Company (EGAS), has successfully begun gas production at the ED2-X well in the East Damanhur block, located in the onshore Nile Delta. This significant development comes after the start of exploration in 2021 and the announcement of a gas discovery in the ED-2X ST1 well in January 2023.

Efficient Production Linked to Nearby Infrastructure

The strategic location of the well near the existing infrastructure at Disouq facilitated a swift tie-back and the start of production. The ED-2X ST1 well, approximately three kilometers from the Disouq field, was connected to the Disouq facilities within two months. This new well is currently delivering around 10 MMscf (million standard cubic feet) of gas per day, contributing to Egypt’s growing energy needs.

Commitment to Sustainable Energy Practices in Egypt

Dawn Summers, Wintershall Dea’s Chief Operating Officer and the board member responsible for the MENA region, remarked on the achievement: “Bringing this well into production safely and efficiently enables us to deliver additional energy at a time when it is much needed in Egypt.” Additionally, Sameh Sabry, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of BU Egypt, emphasized the commitment to maintaining production levels alongside implementing emission reduction programs. He highlighted the achievement of zero routine flaring at the DISOUCO JV and the recent commencement of gas production at the East Damanhur well.
