DXC Technology, a Fortune 500 global technology services leader, has announced its support for the Polish Payment Standard (PSP) in expanding its mobile payment system, BLIK, into Romania and Slovakia. This initiative will see DXC modernizing and adapting the BLIK central system to align with payment standards in the two countries, ensuring compatibility with the Romanian Leu and Euros, and facilitating connections to the SWIFT system.
BLIK’s Adaptation and Growth
Continuing a nine-year relationship, DXC will utilize software engineering expertise to develop PSP’s essential activities. This includes adapting the existing system to cater to the rapidly growing e-commerce segments in Romania and Slovakia and providing daily technical support. With BLIK already being one of the largest payment systems in Poland, this expansion is poised to further drive digital payments in the region.
Significant Transaction Volume
Between July and September 2023, BLIK facilitated 455 million transactions, amounting to 63 billion PLN ($15.7 billion USD). This impressive volume underscores BLIK’s standing in the forefront of digital payment systems.
Comments from PSP and DXC Technology
Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, President at Polish Payment Standard, expressed confidence in BLIK’s capability to integrate with large European banks and its potential for growing the user base in e-commerce payments. Michał Burda, Country General Manager at DXC Technology Poland, emphasized DXC’s role as a trusted partner in innovating the BLIK solution on a global scale for international success.
BLIK’s Role in Polish Payment Evolution
PSP, a joint venture between six leading Polish banks and Mastercard, introduced BLIK in 2015 as a crucial component of Poland’s transition towards a common payment system. BLIK allows customers to use their mobile phones for various transactions, including cash withdrawals from over 20,000 ATMs and facilitating numerous digital payment transactions.
This strategic collaboration between DXC Technology and PSP marks a major milestone in Polish and European banking, setting the stage for BLIK’s international growth and innovation in the digital payments sector.
