Draugen electrification project : Aker Solutions signs EPCI contract with OKEA

Aker Solutions has signed a contract with oil company OKEA for the latter’s Draugen electrification project in the Norwegian Sea, following the 15 December 2022 letter of intent.

The Norwegian offshore engineering and construction company Aker Solutions puts the value of the contract between NOK 2.5 billion ($241 million) and NOK 4 billion ($385 million).

The Draugen oil field, with a sea depth of 250m, has been developed with a concrete fixed facility and integrated topside.

Aker Solutions, as the main contractor for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI), will modify the current Draugen platform to allow power from shore, reducing the emissions from the Draugen oil project by approximately 200,000 tons of CO2 annually.

Paal Eikeseth — Aker Solutions Electrification, Maintenance and Modifications (EMM) business executive vice president and head, commenting on the Draugen electrification project, said: “Replacing the current power generation from gas turbines at the offshore platform and instead electrifying these from shore will enable production of oil and gas from Draugen with significant reductions in CO2 emissions.

“Lifetime-extension of these platforms are of crucial importance for the increasing need for energy and energy security in Europe.”

Aker Solutions said lifetime-extension of this field can result in 20 years of production and value creation.

Founded in 2015, the Trondheim-headquartered OKEA specializes in small and mid-sized developments on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Aker Solutions delivers integrated solutions, products, and services to enable low-carbon oil and gas production and develop renewable solutions for future green energy requirements.
