Dollar General launches 24 Days of Savings to ease holiday spending

Dollar General has unveiled its “24 Days of Savings” campaign, a new promotional strategy aimed at easing financial pressures for holiday shoppers. Running from December 1 to Christmas Eve, the initiative will offer daily discounts on featured items, complementing the retailer’s existing “Decked Out in Deals” holiday program. With over 6,000 discounted items, the company is catering to customers seeking affordable solutions for decorations, gifts, and household essentials across its more than 20,000 U.S. stores.

The campaign comes during a holiday season with fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a concern Dollar General has sought to address. Emily Taylor, the company’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said the program allows customers to plan ahead while capitalizing on savings. She described the initiative as part of the retailer’s broader effort to alleviate the seasonal stress often associated with shopping.

DG Deal Days supplement holiday discounts

The 24 Days of Savings campaign works alongside Dollar General’s ongoing “DG Deal Days,” which provide additional discounts during weekly three-day sales events. Held every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the Deal Days promotions include markdowns of up to 50%, buy-one-get-one offers, and discounted seasonal items such as ornaments, gift wrap, and kitchenware.

The company has emphasized the layered nature of its discounts, which allow customers to combine weekly deals with digital coupons and other promotions. For example, Dollar General’s popular $5 off $25 promotion on Saturdays remains a key feature of its savings strategy.

Taylor noted that the program is intended to help families stretch their budgets, particularly during a season when financial planning is paramount.

Dollar General focuses on digital convenience

In addition to in-store promotions, Dollar General is relying on digital tools to streamline the shopping experience. The retailer’s myDG app provides exclusive digital coupons, DG Cash Back offers, and personalized shopping lists, allowing customers to plan their purchases in advance. Weekly previews of upcoming deals, including those from the 24 Days of Savings campaign, are also available on the app, as well as on the company’s website and social media channels.

Taylor highlighted the importance of these digital offerings, noting that they reflect the company’s commitment to meeting customer needs efficiently and effectively during the busy holiday season.

Supporting small communities with budget-friendly options

As a retailer primarily serving rural and small-town communities, Dollar General is also addressing affordability in other areas of holiday spending. The company’s holiday toy guide features nearly all toys priced under $20, with many under $10. A promotion offering 25% off toy purchases of $75 or more is aimed at helping families find cost-effective options for gift-giving.

On the grocery front, Dollar General is offering bundle deals for ingredients commonly used in holiday recipes, such as pumpkin pie and green bean casserole. These promotions are part of the retailer’s broader effort to support customers in making their celebrations both memorable and affordable.
