Dollar General to build new retail distribution center in Longview, Texas

Retail industry news : US discount store retailer Dollar General will construct a new retail distribution center in Longview in Texas to serve nearly thousand stores in the state and the southeast region.

Then new Dollar General distribution center in Longview, which will break ground in early 2018, is likely to create around 400 new jobs.

Dollar General will be seeking to get all the necessary permits from the government and development approvals before undertaking construction work of the retail distribution center.

Commenting on the new Dollar General retail distribution center in Longview, Todd Vasos – the CEO of Dollar General, said: “Dollar General is excited to expand our supply chain and distribution operations in the Lone Star state with today’s announcement.

“This facility is expected to support Dollar General’s growing store count in Texas where we already operate more than 1,400 current locations and have complementary operations in San Antonio.

“We look forward to the facility helping better serve our customers with value and convenience, as well as creating career opportunities for approximately 400 future Dollar General employees.”

Once constructed, the Dollar General retail distribution center in Longview will become the 17th facility of the US discount store retailer and the second in Texas after its distribution center in San Antonio which was opened in 2016.

The near 1,000,000 square foot Dollar General distribution center in Longview will be built by Clayco, which has been selected as the official general contractor for the project.

Dollar General has also selected Leo A. Daly to provide architectural engineering services while Elan Design has been picked to provide civil engineering services.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, commenting on the new Dollar General distribution center in Longview, said: “Texas’ dynamic and booming economy is attracting new businesses every day, and we are honored to welcome Dollar General’s new distribution center to Longview as the latest example.

“I am proud that companies like Dollar General continue to invest in our top-notch workforce, and I am excited about this partnership and the positive impact it will have on the Longview community.”

Currently, Dollar General operates over 1,400 discount retail stores across the US and has more than 12,000 employees.
