DeepOcean, a global provider of subsea services, has been awarded significant frame agreements by Woodside Energy (Senegal) B.V. The contracts entail providing a suite of subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) services for the Sangomar oil field, strategically located 100 kilometers south of Dakar, Senegal. This field, pivotal in the region, started its oil production operations in June 2024.

The awarded scope includes comprehensive project management, engineering, and execution of essential subsea activities such as inspection, survey, intervention, and maintenance. Additional specialized services involve underwater inspection of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels and standalone remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations. DeepOcean will collaborate closely with its local partner, Teranga Oil and Gas Services SARL—a key player in enforcing local compliance and high-quality standards—to deliver these critical services.

DeepOcean, through its subsidiary Searov Offshore SAS, alongside its office in Séte, France, and partnership with Teranga Oil and Gas, plans to meticulously plan and execute the required services. “We have extensive experience from similar IMR operations offshore West Africa, but this is our first project offshore Senegal and with Woodside. We look forward to being Woodside’s subsea IMR supplier here over the coming years and to demonstrate our competence and extensive pool of specialist subsea tools and underwater assets,” stated Øyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean.

The Sangomar field is equipped with a permanently moored FPSO, 24 subsea wells, and a robust subsea system featuring wellheads, subsea trees, in-line tees, manifolds, flowlines and risers, flowline-end terminals, and subsea umbilicals. The field’s vast infrastructure demands rigorous and effective inspection and maintenance, which DeepOcean aims to provide efficiently to minimize costs and operational disruptions for Woodside.

DeepOcean is not new to West Africa, with operational sites already established in Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Ghana. This new contract marks an important expansion of their service footprint into Senegal, reinforcing their position in the region.

The partnership with Teranga Oil and Gas not only emphasizes DeepOcean’s commitment to local industry collaboration but also enhances their service delivery in line with local regulations and standards. Such collaborations are crucial for the sustainable development of oil and gas projects in emerging markets like Senegal.
