Deepesh Nanda to spearhead Tata Power’s renewable energy portfolio as new president and CEO
In a strategic move that underscores its commitment to sustainable energy, Tata Power, a leading integrated power company in India, announced the appointment of Deepesh Nanda as President-Renewables and CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) from November 1, 2023. Nanda is poised to helm the renewable energy endeavors of the subsidiary, following a notable tenure at GE Gas Power.
An Experienced Visionary for TPREL’s Helm
Deepesh Nanda’s appointment brings a wealth of knowledge to Tata Power’s renewable sector. With 28 years of experience in the energy field, Nanda has held pivotal positions in prominent corporations including GE, Flowserve, and Tyco. At GE Gas Power, he effectively managed the company’s operations across South Asia and served as President & CEO of the Aero-derivative Gas Turbine business in Asia. His educational credentials are equally impressive, holding an engineering degree from Annamalai University and an MBA from the Open University Business School, UK.
In his new capacity, Nanda is entrusted with the responsibility of accelerating the growth and profitability of Tata Power’s extensive renewable portfolio, which spans solar, wind, hybrid, and consumer-facing green energy solutions. Moreover, he will steer the company’s innovation and digital transformation efforts in the renewables sector.
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, lauded Nanda’s entry into the team, stating, “We welcome Deepesh Nanda to the Tata Power family. His illustrious career and proven track record of delivering excellence make him a valuable asset as we chart our path toward leadership in the renewable energy domain. His expertise and vision will be instrumental as we aim to reinforce our position as the most preferred and trusted green energy solutions company.”
Strategic Leadership Realignment for Growth
This leadership change reflects Tata Power’s intent to intensify its focus across various business and growth areas. Ashish Khanna, a seasoned professional from within the Tata Power ranks, transitions to lead the Generation business cluster. This move highlights the company’s strategic efforts to manage its diversified energy production assets, including hydro and thermal plants in India and overseas, along with new ventures like pumped hydro storage plants.
Acknowledging Khanna’s significant contributions, Dr. Sinha appreciated his role in elevating Tata Power Solar and Renewables, adding, “I would like to thank Ashish Khanna for his outstanding contribution to the growth and success of our renewable energy business over the last seven years. Under his leadership, TPREL has become one of the largest renewable energy companies in the country. I am confident that he will give direction and growth in his new role in our Generation businesses.”
